We recently published our AutoSens show report. We really like AutoSens, and writing about the show has become a bit of a habit. You can read and compare our previous show reports from 2016, 2017, and 2018 on our website also.
Robert Stead, the show’s organizer said it very well: “According to the Gartner hype curve autonomous driving is in the trough of disillusionment, but there were no disillusioned people at the show.” We can wholeheartedly agree with that. Indeed, autonomous driving is a tough nut to crack, but there are so many business opportunities where bringing intelligent sensing and processing makes cars safer and more comfortable to drive.
The report gives an overview of Detroit’s presentations, split up in the following categories: sensing, image sensors, Lidar, unique sensors, image processing, perception and AI, applications, development support, supporting technologies, and business aspects.
Tony Picard, our VP Sales at videantis, demonstrated our latest embedded vision technologies and products at the 2019 Embedded Vision Summit. Specifically, Tony gives an overview of videantis and demonstrates deep learning, computer vision, and video coding technology for automotive and other embedded vision applications.
Indeed, we wrote about the AutoSens Detroit report just above, and now we’re already preparing for the next AutoSens show in Brussels.

Waymo releases dataset
Waymo surprised many by releasing a new high-quality multimodal sensor dataset for autonomous driving. The Waymo Open Dataset was introduced at the top AI conference Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) 2019 in Long Beach, California. That motivated Waymo to curate the Waymo Open Dataset, which features some 3,000 driving scenes totaling 16.7 hours of video data, 600,000 frames, approximately 25 million 3D bounding boxes and 22 million 2D bounding boxes. Rumor: Audi joins Daimler and BMW for self-driving tech
Audi will join an alliance with rivals Daimler and BMW to develop advanced autonomous driving systems, German weekly Wirtschaftswoche said last week. BMW and Daimler said in July they have entered into a long-term development partnership to develop highly automated driving functions to enable “hands off” autonomous driving on highways as well as automated parking. BMW said at the time the non-exclusive cooperation is open to other automakers and technology partners. Read the rumor.
